This is EW who has nothing better to do... :)
1. Take 3 balls and weigh them against 3 balls (1st weighing).
Scenario 1:
If there is no weight difference, the lighter ball is either one of the remaining 2 balls. Just weigh them against one another (2nd weighing)to find out which ball is lighter.
Scenario 2:
If there is a weight difference, take the set which is lighter. Pick out 2 balls from this set and weigh them against each other (the 2nd weighing). If they are equal, the remaining ball is the light one. If not, obviously the lighter one is the one you are trying to find.
